Shannon's Interview

I asked Shannon interview me and I finally got the answers all typed in- so here it is. Thanks Shannon! This was fun.

1.If you had to choose one movie or book as your life, what would it be?

I can’t really think of a movie that describes my life accurately- but if I had to choose one that I would like to fit and has aspects of my life in it I guess it would be Anne of Green Gables. Now, let me explain- I know on the surface a young orphan girl adopted by brother/sister spinster pair sounds nothing like my life. But, I ‘m thinking of more the attitude of Anne and Dianna put together. I kind of have that stubborn yet silly romantic sentimentality that Anne does and I used to have a strong tendancy to be “in the depths of despair” like Anne always rather dramatically was.. And in other ways I’m like Dianna Barry who is always kind of going along and wants to be brave, but is always a little scared that she’s going to get into big trouble. Plus, people used to tell me that I looked like Dianna Barry.

2. Do you prefer a phone call or an email and why?

I much prefer email.. I have always loved getting mail- snail mail or email. When I’m on the phone, I feel like I run out of things to say too quickly. I know it isn’t faster to email- but I feel like I can gather my thoughts more completely and make a lot more sense on paper. Maybe it is some fear of what I’ll accidentally say

3. What is your greatest pet peeve?

People who always expect the worst. This is going to sound like I’m complaining- but, hopefully I’m just answering the question. There are a lot of people who are determined to look on the down side of everything. Every time something good happens to them, almost the first thing out of their mouth is something to the effect of “ No way this is going to last” or “This is too good to be true” or “Just wait, something’s going to happen”. That really grates on me –primarily because it shows no trust that God is going to work everything out for our good. He promised to bless his people richly and a lot of times we live like we expect God to take away every good thing he’s given us. So, that is my biggest pet peeve.

4. How has the reality of marriage compared with the expectations you had beforehand?

I never expected it to be so good. I thought that once I got married and didn’t have roommates anymore that I would have to do all the cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes on top of teaching and just being married. I suppose I envisioned a rather stressful life; he would do his work (yard, finances, wash the car) and I would do mine and we would just eat together and spend our evenings together talking and doing stuff together. I thought we would live our lives - but not really share our lives. But, we do everything together. I used to get so upset with myself for letting the dishes get piled up or the laundry and I was constantly apologizing – but Courtney would always say something like “This is both of our responsibility- we sharing this burden…stop worrying about it”. I didn’t expect that. So, it is a lot more relaxed than I thought it would be.

5. What is your favorite method of traveling and why?
I love to travel so much – this is a hard one. If I’m going a long distance ( over 2000 miles) I really like to fly. But, that's a hard one because I really like road trips. I guess I prefer car travel if we have plenty of time. If we are in a rush then I don’t enjoy it nearly as much. I really enjoy traveling by train too. I enjoy being able to see the country-side and just sitting back and relaxing.

::If you woud like to participate too, here are your instructions:
1. Leave me a comment saying “interview me.”
2. I will respond by asking you five questions (not the same as you see here).
3. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

And the cycle continues, on and on and on...
I'll warn you now: it's easier said than done.::

OK, this has been driving me nuts for weeks. Who's the guy and who's the girl? Courtney or Lisa?

does lisa really sound like a guy's name? hmmm....

Isn't Josiah a girl's name?

By the way, that was a joke Josiah.

no offense to Courtney, but it doesn't sound any more "male" to me than Lisa. But now I know.

Historically, Courtney has been a male name. Not until the twentieth century (I think) did it start being a gender neutral name. And now, as you all know, most people named Courtney are girls.

I'll speak for my husband- no offense is taken.

I've never heard of a boy named Lisa- have you met a man with that name? That blows my mind! I've never thought of my name as being masculine sounding or neutral.

I remember as a kid meeting a boy named Shannon. I was greatly troubled.

Actually, historically, Courtney has been a surname. It later made the transition to first names. Americans then started the trend of it being used for females. (What can I say? I've been reading baby name books a LOT lately!)
