Fund Raising
Hey everyone. I figure since Courtney's blogging again, I should too. I can't let him have all the glory! :) I've gotten so out of the habit of blogging that I'm kind of at a loss as to what to blog about. So, I think I'll just ask for advice. I'm organizing a fund raiser for my music company (Huntington Music Company) and it is going to be a huge deal. It's going to be a concert/silent auction. I'm going to have my students kind of compete for five performance spots for the concert and then have all the teachers that teach at HMCo. perform too. I want to sell adds and get sponsors, but I've never done anything like that. So, what do you charge for those kinds of things? What kind of incentive type things do you give in exchange for someone sponsoring you? I want to sell 1/4 page, 1/2 page and full page adds that will go in the program, but I don't really know what to charge for the different dimensions. I want it to be a child-friendly atmosphere because this is really for the benefit of my students, so I want to sell single, couple, and family tickets- but what do you charge for something like this? I know it should be a little more than a regular concert because it is a fund raiser, but I really don't have any idea what to charge. I have ideas, but they aren't really founded on any experience with these type of things. We are getting donations from local restaurants and businesses for things like free dinners, movie passes, and stuff like that for the silent auction. Any other ideas on things that we could auction? We want to raise a good chunk of money so any ideas at this point, are good ideas.

Sorry I'm so late in getting back to you on your question. We are wanting to buy a new digital piano for the students to be able to do sight-reading and ear-training on. It is a super special computer type piano. I can download things from the internet onto it, it has a disk drive where kids can make up songs and save them to disk- then print them out on their printer. It can do so many things. We also want to get some music theory and history programs for the computer for students to work on. It is a constant struggle to get students to do theory and history worksheets on their own time- at home- so if we have the programs here, they can just come for a little longer and do all their work on the computer- it'll grade it for them and tell them what they need to work on. So, I don't know if this was more that you wanted to know, but that's what we need money for. We are going to give about 50% of what we make away to different charities in Monroe- the main ones being the Monroe Symphony League and the Monroe District Music Teacher's Association.
